We’ve received reports of users being told they can withdraw or convert Testnet or Signet Bitcoin into real BTC. This is not possible.
If someone claims your Testnet or Signet BTC is real and asks you to send money to 'unlock', 'activate' or 'verify' funds — this is a scam. This article explains the difference between Bitcoin networks and how to stay safe.
Understanding Bitcoin Networks
Bitcoin operates on different networks for different purposes:
Mainnet (Real Bitcoin)
- This is the official Bitcoin network.
- BTC on Mainnet has real monetary value.
- It can be sent to exchanges, converted to fiat, or transferred to other wallets.
-
Mainnet addresses typically start with:
bc1,3,1
Testnet & Signet (Testing Networks)
- These are development and testing networks.
- Coins on these networks are used for experimentation and development.
- They have no monetary value.
- They cannot be converted into real BTC.
-
Testnet/Signet addresses often start with:
tb1,m,n,2
Testnet and Signet exist to allow developers to test transactions without risking real funds. You can read more about these networks here:
Common Scam Tactic
Scammers may use several variations of the same scheme. Be especially cautious if someone:
- Offers to sell you Bitcoin at a cheaper price and asks you to send fiat money after they “transfer” BTC to you
- Claims your Testnet BTC is 'real but locked'
- Asks you to send money to 'activate', 'verify' or 'release' funds
- Sends screenshots showing large balances
- Pressures you to act quickly
Additionally, there are cases where scammers impersonate Xverse Support on platforms such as X (Twitter), Telegram, WhatsApp or other messaging apps. They may claim to be part of the Xverse team or work with our on-ramp partners.
These claims are fraudulent. Xverse never charges activation fees and will never ask you to send funds to unlock or withdraw assets. This is not part of our process and is a clear indication that the person you are communicating with is a scammer. It’s best to stop engaging with them immediately.
Follow our guide to securely purchase Bitcoin: How to Purchase Bitcoin with Fiat or Crypto Using Xverse?
We strongly recommend:
- Do not send any funds or personal information to these individuals
- Only trust information from official documentation or reputable sources
- Do your own research on Bitcoin Testnet/Signet scams. You’ll find many public reports and warnings online.
As a non-custodial wallet, Xverse does not control, hold, or convert funds, and we cannot turn testnet assets into real BTC.

If you are unsure, always verify the source directly through our official website before taking any action.
