Backing up your wallet is essential to ensure the safety and recoverability of your funds. Without a proper backup, losing access to your wallet will result in permanent loss of funds. Xverse provides two secure backup methods: Manual Backup (available to all users) and Cloud Backup (available for mobile users). Both options help secure your wallet by allowing you to restore it when needed.
A seed phrase is a twelve or twenty-four-word phrase that serves as the key to restore to access
Note
While you can back up your wallet at any time in Settings, we strongly recommend completing the backup process during wallet creation.
Manual Backup (for All Users)
The Manual Backup method requires users to save their 12-word seed phrase securely. This method provides complete control and independence over your wallet backup.
- In Settings (⚙️) > Backup Wallet > select Manual Backup.
- Enter your password or PIN to verify access > select Reveal to view your seed phrase.
- Write down your 12-word seed phrase in the exact order provided.
- Complete the backup process by verifying your seed phrase.
Tips to Protect Your Seed Phrase
- Store your seed phrase in a safe place, such as a fireproof safe or safety deposit box. Avoid storing it digitally to reduce the risk of hacking.
- Keep copies of your seed phrase in multiple secure locations to ensure you can still recover your wallet if one copy is lost or damaged.
- If you must store your seed phrase digitally, use a password manager with strong encryption. Ensure the password is strong and unique.
Important: Never share your seed phrase with anyone, including our support team. Anyone with access to it can control your funds.
Cloud Backup (for Mobile Users)
The Cloud Backup feature is a convenient option for mobile wallet users, enabling you to securely store your seed phrase in an encrypted format on your iCloud (iOS) or Google Drive (Android) account.
The genrated backup files will be encrypted on your device and directly uploaded to the cloud. Xverse does not save the backup files.
- In Settings (⚙️) > Backup Wallet > select Cloud Backup > Enter your password or PIN to verify access.
- Confirm your understanding of the process and proceed.
- Create a strong backup password to encrypt the seed phrase file before saving it to the cloud.
Manual Backup is Still Recommended
While cloud backups are convenient, manual backup provides a more reliable and independent recovery option. If issues arise with your cloud provider (e.g., account loss or technical errors), having a written copy ensures you retain access to your wallet.
Backing up your wallet ensures that you can always restore access in case of device loss or failure. For detailed guidance, see: How to Restore Your Xverse Wallet.
