Understanding Bitcoin Wallet Connections
When you connect your Xverse Wallet to a website or dApp, the site can view your Bitcoin (BTC) address and associated balance information. However, connecting to a site does not give it access to your funds or permissions to initiate transactions. Each transaction still requires your explicit approval.
In comparison to other blockchain networks like Ethereum, Bitcoin connections are relatively limited. Sites can only access public information, meaning they cannot sign transactions or manipulate your wallet without your consent.
Can I Disconnect My Wallet from Websites?
Starting from Xverse Wallet extension v0.43.0 and mobile app v1.38.0, users can now view and disconnect their wallet from previously connected websites and apps. This feature provides better control over your wallet’s permissions, allowing you to remove access to your wallet address and balance information, protecting your privacy.
Important to Know
- Stacks Apps Not Supported: Currently, the revoke connection feature is not supported for apps on the Stacks network. Our team is working on adding support for this in future releases.
- Previously Connected Apps: The connected apps list will only start recording connections from the point of your next interaction with a dApp. Apps you had signed into before updating will not show up in the list, and you won’t be able to revoke their connections through the settings.
- Limited Data Retrieval: This means that while you can view and disconnect some apps, others may not be visible for revocation. However, this does not pose a risk to your wallet’s security, as these apps can only view your BTC balance and addresses. They cannot perform any actions or transactions without your explicit approval.
How to Disconnect from Websites and Apps
In the Settings menu, select Connected Apps. This will display a list of all the apps and websites your wallet has been connected to. To remove a specific connection, simply select the app and disconnect. To disconnect from all connected apps at once, select Disconnect all.
