What happens to my Bitcoin if Xverse shuts down?

Short answer: If Xverse the app or company went away, your Bitcoin and other self-custodial assets still sit on their blockchains under your seed phrase. You restore that seed in any compatible wallet. Xverse does not need to stay online for you to own the coins.

Seed equals funds

If this happens What still works
Xverse app unavailable Restore with your recovery phrase in Xverse (if available) or another BIP-compatible wallet
You switch phones Same seed, same accounts (after restore)
You lose the phone but have the seed Restore on a new device
You lose the seed with no backup Funds are not recoverable by Support or by "account reset"

BIP-compatible recovery (what to expect)

Xverse uses industry-standard seed and derivation patterns for supported chains so you can recover in compatible software or hardware wallets. Exact coin and path support depends on the destination wallet. Verify address types (Bitcoin payment vs Ordinals, Stacks, Starknet, Spark, and so on) after restore.

What a shutdown would not automatically fix

  • Open Earn, Borrow, or stacking positions still follow protocol rules (lockups, cooldowns, liquidations on Vesu, and so on). You interact with those contracts from whatever wallet can sign for that network.
  • Dual Stacking is already discontinued. Positions unlocked at PoX-5. Do not wait on Dual Stacking recovery paths or old Dual Stacking guides.
  • Partner fiat rails (onramp, virtual account, Card waitlist) can stop independently of your onchain balances.
  • Assets sent to the wrong network remain a user error problem, not a custody-recovery problem.

Checklist so you are shutdown-ready

  1. Write down or securely store the full recovery phrase (never in screenshots or cloud notes labeled "seed").
  2. Confirm you can restore on a spare device before you need to.
  3. Optional: connect Ledger or Keystone for large balances. Optional multisig via Asigna if you use shared vaults.
  4. Keep a personal record of which networks you use (Bitcoin L1, Stacks, Starknet, Spark, and so on).
