How to Import OKX Wallet to Xverse?

This article will walk you through importing your wallet from OKX to Xverse, explaining key differences in Bitcoin address formats and how your seed phrase ensures seamless access to your funds.

Understanding Seed Phrases and Bitcoin Address Formats

A seed phrase (also called a recovery phrase) is a set of 12 to 24 words that your wallet generates to secure and derive all associated addresses. This phrase is essential when switching wallets, as it allows access to your assets on the blockchain.

Bitcoin has evolved with different address formats to improve security, efficiency, and scalability:

  • Legacy addresses (start with 1) – The original Bitcoin address format.
  • Nested SegWit addresses (start with 3) – Reduce fees and improve block efficiency.
  • Native SegWit addresses (start with bc1q) – Offer even better fee optimization and block space usage.
  • Taproot addresses (start with bc1p) – Enhance privacy and transaction efficiency.

What Addresses does Xverse Support?

  • Native SegWit or Nested Segwit for Bitcoin transactions.
  • Taproot for Ordinals, Runes, and BRC-20 tokens.

OKX may use different address derivation paths, meaning some funds may not immediately appear after importing your wallet. The following steps will help ensure a smooth transition.

How to Import Your OKX Wallet to Xverse

Step 1: Retrieve Your Seed Phrase

Access your 12 to 24-word seed phrase from your OKX wallet.

Step 2: Set Up Xverse and Import Your Wallet

If you ahven't already, download Xverse wallet via: https://www.xverse.app/download. When prompted, select “Restore an existing wallet” and enter your OKX seed phrase. Xverse will automatically derive your Bitcoin and Ordinals addresses.

Step 3: Verify Your Addresses and Recover Any Missing Bitcoin

• Your Bitcoin balance should appear under a Native SegWit (bc1q) address.

• Your Ordinals, Runes, and BRC-20 tokens will be in a Taproot (bc1p) address.

Important Note

If you previously used only Taproot address format, you may need to recover BTC from your Taproot/Ordinals address to your Bitcoin address in Xverse. Ensure you have some BTC in your Native SegWit address to cover transaction fees and follow this guide: How to Recover BTC from Your Ordinals Address (Taproot) in Xverse?
